Nordic Walking 1/2 Marathon Training Underway!

Training for the 1/2 Marathon Nordic Walk at this summers Marathon By The Sea has officially begun.  If you haven't registered yet - no worries - there's still time. This 10 week program is designed to have you walking 6 days a week with short tempo building walks during the week and distance building walks on Saturday mornings.

Instructors are available at group walks three days a week, but if ever you can't make a group walk training manuals provide a day by day schedule with the recommended distance and speed for that day so you can walk to work, on your lunch break or when you get home at the end of the day - whatever's best for you!  Training manuals also provide information on nutrition, injury prevention and lifestyle habits.  Over the course of the program guest speakers will also be brought in to speak on nutrition and proper footwear.

This program is designed for people of all ages and backgrounds so whether you've been walking for years or just looking to start you can cross the finish line this August.  Registration can be done in person at DayTripping at Rockwood Park, by phone at 657-8747 or online at http://www.daytrippingnb.com/nordic_walking_half_marathon_training.html

Calling All Nordic Walkers - Community Walking Challenge

In 2010, New Brunswick once again had the highest obesity rate in Canada. In an effort to draw attention to the health status of New Brunswickers, Albert County will be hosting a community walking challenge on Saturday June 11th at 11:00am. There will be a 1km and a 5km walk followed by a health and science fair at the Alma Activity Centre. Come represent your community at the walk and challenge others to do the same and take steps towards improving your health. For more information call 506-882-3102.  All Nordic Walkers are encouraged to attend, poles will also be available for demo and purchase for any newcomers.
